Research Activities

L’attività scientifica del Laboratorio riguarda le seguenti tematiche scientifiche: modellazione fisica dei fenomeni di flusso, trasporto di massa e calore in mezzi geologici porosi e/o fratturati. Prototipazione e ingegnerizzazione finalizzata allo sviluppo di nuove tecnologie e metodi in ambito ambientale e delle energie rinnovabili, fornendo servizi di progettazione, modellazione numerica e realizzazione di prototipi. Verifica della validità ed efficienza della performance di tecnologie innovative in campo geotermico.

Il Laboratorio ha all’attivo collaborazioni con imprese ed istituzioni quali: Dipartimento di Fisica e Scienze della Terra dell’Università di Ferrara; New Energies and Environment Company (NEA) Ferrara; Geo Environmental Energy Technologies Company (GEET), Bari; School of Civil Engineering, University of Queensland, Brisbane (Australia); Institut für Geologie, Mineralogie und Geophysik Arbeitsgruppe Hydrogeologie Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germania); CEIGRAM, Universitad Politécnica de Madrid – Ciudad Universitaria Madrid (Spain); dPELNoT, ERCOFTAC, Instituto Pluridisciplinar, Madrid (Spain); Dept. Research Activities

The Urban Planning Laboratory is a center of excellence in research on methodologies and problems of the governance of the city and of contemporary territories. Moreover, the Dicar Laboratory itself carried out a scientific partnership with the Arca Puglia Centrale (then IACP Bari and Bat) on the occasion of the PRIN (Research Projects of National Interest) of the MIUR "La Città Pubblica" as a Design Laboratory . The production of Guidelines for the sustainable redevelopment of urban outskirts financed in 2005 by MIUR. Research that gave life to two publications; respectively AA.VV. (2009), Public City, Guidelines for urban redevelopment, Mondadori, Milan and that of the Local Research Unit of the Polytechnic of Bari; Martinelli, N. (edited by) (2009), For an Atlas of the Public City of Bari, Adda, Bari the latter with a partial financial contribution to the publication of the same Iacp Bari and Bat. Moreover, the same research group carried out an experience in the field as requested by the MIUR for the research in question collaborating with the Municipality of Bari and with the IACP Bari and Bat conducting the District Laboratory on the occasion of the PIRP of S. Marcello.

Services

It is equipped with technical and scientific skills that have been working for more than 15 years in the construction of knowledge systems on a georeferenced basis deriving from descriptive-interpretative models through highly qualified expertise (planners, landscape architects, researchers and operators in the CAD, GIS, TLR environment , DSS) and for the processing of data acquired from different types of sources (cartographic and alphanumeric).

It is equipped with workstations able to manage spatial data, on a vector and raster basis, large format color scanners, printers and high resolution large format plotters.

It is equipped with software for digital image processing and software for the management of local information systems and relational databases.

Research Activities

The Architectural Design Laboratory is organized into two macro research areas: City Studies and Digital Fabrication.

The Laboratory is a centre of excellence in research on the forms of the contemporary city. Assuming all the main problems related to its "territorial" dimension, such research tries to define new settlement / housing models able to correspond to the aspirations of our time, assigning a correct value to the refound and regenerative strategies (re-use / re-cycle, smart city, green / blue growth ...).

The laboratory is equipped with:

technical and scientific skills, gained over twenty years, having worked in the field of computer-aided architectural design, and setting itself the goal of developing the design process that leads from the idea to the finished piece; therefore, skills have been developed in the field of CAD / CAM and rapid prototyping applied to architecture and industrial design;
workstation with CAD / CAM and BIM software, A0 format colour scanner, A3 colour flatbed scanner, slide scanner, CMSTU11 five-axis CNC machine, ZCorp310 rapid prototyping machine, rapid prototyping machine FDM Stratasys Fortus 360;
software dedicated to solid and superficial modelling for the representation of models of architecture and industrial design;
software dedicated to computer graphics and video editing.

The laboratory equipment has been used to carry out studies in the field of research on the use of stone in contemporary architecture and industrial design products (experimental projects in collaboration with companies in the sector, specialized exhibitions, workshops and internships on construction of complex stone construction elements). Moreover, for inter-university and interdepartmental collaborations. It has also been employed for international experience mainly with Albania, France, Greece, Hungary, Turkey and the Middle Eastern countries in general.
The laboratory supports teaching and research activities in the area of degree laboratories of the degree courses in Architecture and Industrial Design and the Research Doctorate.

Research Activities

Finanziato dal Ministero per il potenziamento delle infrastrutture nelle Regioni della Convergenza a sostegno della Ricerca nel Mezzogiorno. Il progetto MITO è stato presentato per la realizzazione strutturale di un sistema di “long term digital preservation” di prodotti/risultati di ricerca, attraverso l’utilizzo di soluzioni standard aperte (’open government e open data), utilizzabili a tutti i livelli in un quadro di cooperazione con altre istituzioni nazionali in coerenza con le raccomandazioni di Horizon 2020. La raccolta, la standardizzazione, l’omogenizzazione e la diffusione secondo formati e standard Open, di grandi quantità di dati multimediali, forniranno un quadro di strumenti per l’analisi dello stato del territorio, e il supporto ad interventi multidisciplinari.. Il Laboratorio è dotato di un’infrastruttura di rete costituita principalmente da un server/storage connesso in fibra alla rete GARR, workstation GIS ad elevate prestazioni, drone multirotore octocottero bilanciato da otto motori indipendenti con centralina DJI-NAZA e stabilizzazione automatica mediante GPS. Il progetto si riferisce ad una infrastruttura di rete federata MITO-net composta da nodi chiamati MITO-lab. Presso ciascun MITO-Lab sono state allestite idonee postazioni di lavoro per supportare le attività di data-entry, lo sviluppo dei componenti applicativi, la produzione di materiale multimediale, l’elaborazione dei dati, che vanno da informazioni sul mercato immobiliare al patrimonio ambientale e culturale, all'informazione territoriale in genere interpretata anche come servizio per l'esterno.

Research Activities

The Laboratory of Cognition and Spatial Planning (CoPS) is a structure of strong reference for activities related to spatial planning, urban planning and engineering of the territory, for study and university research, as well as for consulting activities and third mission. The activities are aimed at supporting decisions with a view to sustainability, territorial development and environmental protection, with particular regard to:

1. Analysis, forecasting, assessment and modeling of assets.

2. Assisted planning with:

G.I.S techniques oriented (if necessary, also with the help of sensors for monitoring environmental and social phenomena).
multiagent models of cognition and spatial analysis.

3. Decision support systems, including through the construction and simulation of scenarios.

The acquired acquisitions, also in the use of advanced techniques and technologies, have allowed to support several national and European research projects (such as PRIN, Strategic Projects and Exploratory Projects with Puglia Region), Puglia Region, Park Authorities, etc.).
